This schizophrenic weather we’ve been having combined with next-season planning…all I want is a quick island getaway. Not entirely practical or possible, but intermittent snow showers, everyday grey gloom, and stress at the office have been making my mind wander to far more tropical, relaxing places. My normal color palette may be a little too underwhelming for some, but dark neutrals are my best friend. Easily combined and layered, black, white, khaki, and subtle pattern are my go-to’s no matter the occasion or destination. Though my next planned trip is in April to visit my mom in Florida, I can’t help but think of more far-away destinations. Tulum? Cuba? St. Tropez? Let your imagination decide
Everywhere I turn, I can’t seem to escape the shirt dress trend. Coworkers rock them in the office, storefront windows merchandise them as the *must-have* of the moment, and magazines forecast them as a necessity this Spring. Though I’m often one to gravitate towards the more tailored details, I can’t seem to find a lot of shirt dresses out there that truly pique my interest. As you know, I love the quirky little details, especially ones that lean towards the dark, the edgy, the avant-garde…key features that tailored or flowy shirt-dresses don’t typically include. I’ve rounded up a few options below that go beyond the basic shirt dress with the little details, a different silhouette to suit different tastes, and best of all just a little bit of funk.
With bohemian / 70s style being all the rage this Spring/Summer season, there are all sorts of style influences (psychedelic, disco, Cali cool, ethnic, etc.). Cali cool boho has been one of my personal favorites because there are so many variations and fun details, but festival inspired looks are something to avoid with how overplayed and overly commercial they’ve become (hello Forever21). Who doesn’t want to incorporate their originality while being on-trend?
Whether you’re going out for drinks, playing the night low-key (it is a Tuesday after all), or not doing anything, get in the fiesta spirit with the looks below; from office-appropriate to date night to downtown cool, I gotchu covered Click the pic to see where you can purchase these styles.
Spring is a time for new beginnings, a time to take risks, and a time to lighten up a bit…I just wish it would get here already! The days have seemingly gotten longer thanks to Daylight Savings, but the temperatures are still frosty here in NYC. I’ve already started on my spring wishlist to help lighten my wintry mood, but there’s still quite a few things I’d like to pick up before the next season is officially here. Clockwise from top left:
∞ Linen coat with pockets (Zara)
∞ Nom Yourself Cookbook (out April 6th)
∞ Sunnies (Warby Parker)
∞ Light-er washed denim jacket (wear now, make a DIY project later)
∞ Patchwork-striped shirt
∞ Black leather shorts
∞ Ankle-wrap sandals (Dolce Vita)
∞ Leopard crossbody, Burberry Prorsum Crush (received as Christmas gift, remember this post?)
∞ Floral dress (vintage Givenchy, bought on Etsy)
∞ Orange/Poppy lipstick (NARS) Think I forgot something? Ah, yes, the asterisked pieces…
* Valentino Rockstud Noir flats and Saint Laurent Jane Studded sandal…what? A girl can dream, right? These badass tootsie toppers scream my name but reality gets in the way of my fantasy.
