When the grueling process of job hunting begins, you never know how long it will take. Whether you are just company-hopping or doing a full blown career change, the process of applying, networking, applying, following up, and *hopefully* getting the interview can be daunting and exhausting. At times it can be mentally draining and defeating – for those of us who are Type A, a lack of patience plagues our personalities, and not hearing back from your dream company can be downright depressing. To take my mind off of situations out of my control, I read and tried to absorb as much as possible, turning everything into an opportunity to learn.
After 4 months, I recently finished my grueling job hunt, landed an amazing opportunity, and went through the emotional roller coaster that finding a new job always is. Throughout the process, these newsletters really got me through, offering daily tips from career advice, financial tidbits, health, lifehacks, recipes, beautiful travel photo eye-candy, and DIYs that I never would have thought of or just really needed to read at the right times. Maybe you’ve heard of these, perhaps you have not – I can’t recommend these daily reads enough! Some even offer amazing Sunday Editions that showcase some sites and articles for extended recommended reading as well. I hope you find these as helpful in your process as I did. Would love to hear of any newsletters that helped you through your latest job hunt process! Comment with any recommendations 🙂
Everywhere I turn, I can’t seem to escape the shirt dress trend. Coworkers rock them in the office, storefront windows merchandise them as the *must-have* of the moment, and magazines forecast them as a necessity this Spring. Though I’m often one to gravitate towards the more tailored details, I can’t seem to find a lot of shirt dresses out there that truly pique my interest. As you know, I love the quirky little details, especially ones that lean towards the dark, the edgy, the avant-garde…key features that tailored or flowy shirt-dresses don’t typically include. I’ve rounded up a few options below that go beyond the basic shirt dress with the little details, a different silhouette to suit different tastes, and best of all just a little bit of funk.
With brands ranging from John Masters Organics (shown) to Lavanilla and beyond, there is no reasonable excuse for not making this switch. Not only will you be foregoing chemically smells, but these lotions will make your skin feel glorious, not greasy.
2. Makeup Setting Mist
We are already experiencing makeup-melting-temps and it’s only June! I am a firm believer in the one by Make Up For Ever (shown) but Urban Decay makes a decent one as well. Just apply your makeup (I advise waiting to apply mascara until after you mist), spray 3-4 pumps around your face, let dry, apply mascara and your makeup won’t budge for hours!
3. Pasties that will LAST
Go beyond the flower-shaped disposables for a pair that will last you eons longer (I’ve owned mine for over 2 years!). Let me introduce you to Nippies — the different kind of pasty. Crafted in an ultra-thin silicone to ensure no show-through, these are money well spent: simply peel off at the end of the night, gently wash with soap and water, and they’re ready for their next use!
4. Good Flat Sandals
Because those cute ones from Target will only last you one season. Trendy sandals are just that: sandals that cater to the trends of the season. To ensure that you’ll get more use out of sandals than just one season, opt for a fashionably simple pair to pair with more outfits. The more use you can get out of them, the more reasonable a higher price tag becomes. Better materials used, better craftsmanship in production, the longer you’ll have them in your closet.
5. Time Well Spent
Unplug, log off, sign out, and ENJOY LIFE this summer.
