It’s been one year already…

I’m floored by how quickly time flies by. One year ago today, the hubs and I tied the knot here in NYC. It was an intimate evening on the UES with 98 of our closest family and friends. And just like *that* the night was over and already a year has gone by.

He popped the question in April 2016 and after a year and a half of planning, it was all over in a blink. At the time we were living on the Upper East Side and loved to frequent the Carl Schurz Park, particularly for the beautiful row of cherry blossoms that reminded me of D.C., where we met in college. On a typical Saturday afternoon we were going on our walk through the park ooh-ing and ahh-ing at the dogs. When we eventually made our way down to the cherry blossom trees I was a little put off by how much time he was taking to really “soak it all in.” No joke, he was taking 5+ minutes to look at trees we see every week. Then we saw a bridal party walking towards us for photos *I could not even make this up* and once they were out of sight he says “well, if that isn’t a sign…” under his breath and drops to one knee with the ring box popped open. As you can already tell, I said yes 🙂

I’ll spare you the agonizing details of how much planning went into one day, but I will happily share some details that made the process a bit smoother.

Wedding Website
Some people don’t like the idea of a wedding website, but it honestly made so many things easier: sharing details for the venue, hotel room blocks, and link out to our registry to name a few. When you’re inviting 100+ people, I opted for the path of least resistance and whipped one up using Minted.com. It took us a while to find a site template we liked, but after that it was smooth sailing. Plus, with the amount of promotions they offer, we were happy to use Minted for our save the dates as well. *In no way shape or form was this post sponsored*

The Big Day
I was very fortunate for everything about our wedding day. We had a perfect day in terms of weather – one of those early-October days that still feels like summer, and the things that went wrong were comical. Most notably: my dad’s tux button came off as he was in my dressing room just before we walked down the aisle, and we sewed him into his tux last minute.

I’m a very hands-on person, and all efforts were just that: my wedding dress was custom made by my grandfather-in-law, my Maid of Honor and I worked with a close family friend to create the centerpieces, my father-in-law was the photographer….you get the point. It was family all around.

One Year Later
What are we doing to celebrate our 1 year anniversary? Going to see a matinee showing of The Book of Mormon and grabbing an early dinner. Those who knew us in college know that David and I met through close friends (our Best Man and Maid of Honor) one night, watching South Park at his frat house. This seemed like a pretty fitting way to celebrate 7 years later 🙂

It’s totally still 2016, I mean 2018

Where the hell have you been?” seems like the perfectly accurate way to greet me at this point.

Where have I been?
I took a hiatus, got engaged, welcomed a nephew to the world, moved to a new apartment, got married, industry-hopped twice, traveled a bit, and here we are. This blog started as my creative outlet while I was an undergrad, and though it continued a bit into my post-grad life, it hasn’t been what I wanted it to be nor what I wanted to give to my readers, you babes.

Two years later, a lot has changed in my world and I’m sure with yours, too. I’m excited to get reacquainted with you.

Xo,
Julia

2015 Flew By

Shortly after my last post, my life kinda kicked into high gear

– Family reunion in Florida to celebrate my grandma’s 85th birthday
– My sister-in-law’s Bachelorette Party in Miami
– Attended Coney Island Mermaid Parade – far more nudity than you’d expect, too graphic to post pics here
– Served on Jury Duty
– Started eating fish and seafood (after being vegan for 5 years)
– My brother’s wedding in Boston
– My last trade show trip in Las Vegas
– Changed departments within my company, starting a whole new gig – now in charge of E-commerce, Social Media, and Digital Marketing, while managing our Customer Service team
– Attended the Decoded Fashion Summit here in NYC
– Halloween shenanigans
– Holiday season travel (made extra fun with city life and no car)
– Ringing in the New Year

After all that, I was left with a bit of an emotional hangover to say the least. Bummed I wasn’t able to find as much time as I’d have liked to draft new posts, but tried to come up for air with each step and snap a pic. Enjoy a quick recap in Instagram shots below:

What better way to enjoy family time than on the beach?

Happy Valentine’s Day

For what will be my most relaxed Valentine’s Day yet, I can only pair it with an equally  low-key outfit. Nothing quite like spending the night in, cooking together, and sharing each others’ tender company…quite rare with both of our current job schedules.

What are your plans with your sweetheart?
